‘I am not shy calling him a modern-day great…’ – Dinesh Karthik hails Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling in 1st Test vs England

India’s star cricketer Dinesh Karthik has recently heaped praise on great bowler Jasprit Bumrah owing to his magnificent bowling spells against England in the ongoing five matches of the Test series that commenced on January 25 at the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. However, the wicketkeeper batter feels Bumrah is India’s go-to-go bowler in all three formats.

The 38-year-old cricketer has called him a modern-day great and said that he does not give this name often to others. In addition, the RCB stalwart feels the right-arm pacer brings so much excellence, and he is a dream bowler for Team India and the captain of the team. The cricket commentator feels Jasprit Bumrah has a great attitude to bowl against the toughest batter.

“I don’t like to use the word great too easily. But I am not shy calling Jasprit Bumrah a modern-day great, without a doubt. What he brings to the table in any format is par excellence. As a captain, he is the dream bowler. You need a big batsman out, give the ball to Bumrah; he has an attitude to say, ‘I want to bowl against him,” Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

That’s what made Jasprit Bumrah so special: Dinesh Karthik

The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer compares Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling to that of some of the legendary cricketers, including the likes of James Anderson, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar. Moreover, Dinesh Karthik also talks about the abilities that Bumrah possesses, which makes him a very unique and lethal pacer from India’s camp.

“In reverse swing, to bring the ball back in is an art, which Siraj and a lot of other bowlers do. But to take the ball away from a right-hander, not many people can do it. If you do jog your mind, you think about Shoaib Akhtar and Waqar Younis. Very few people could do it both ways. That’s what made him (Bumrah) so special. James Anderson has done it,” he added further.
