WATCH: Former India skipper MS Dhoni recalls his last day in international cricket

Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni played his last match in the 2019 ODI World Cup clash against New Zealand, where Virat Kohli-led India was knocked out of the tournament after suffering a narrow defeat over the Kiwis. Notably, chasing 240 runs for the win, MS Dhoni was the last hope; however, it was shattered after he was run out and caused the Men in Blue to lose the game.

Meanwhile, former India skipper MS Dhoni opened up about the emotions he felt on his last day. The wicketkeeper-batsman was in a difficult situation when he lost the close game against the Black Caps. In addition, the legendary cricketer reveals that he announced his retirement on the same day in his mind and head, but he announced it a year later in front of fans. The 42-year-old legend was not able to reveal this to their management staff when they were giving equipment to him.

“It is difficult to control the emotions when you lose a close game. To me that was the last day I played for India. That day I retired (in my head) although I announced it a year later. We are given some machines which we wear. Every time I went to the trainer to return it, they kept saying ‘no you continue to keep it’. I used to think how do I tell this person I don’t need it anymore. I did not want to announce it at that point of time,” MS Dhoni said.

No problem in day-to-day routine: MS Dhoni

The CSK star also talked about his injury, which he sustained in the IPL 2023. The Ranchi-born cricketer has been in the rehab phase and is currently fit. However, the world’s greatest captain reveals that he wanted to be known as a good human being instead of being one of the most successful captains.

“Knee has survived the operation, going through the rehab patch, the doctor told me you would feel much better by November. But no problem in day-to-day routine. You know, right from the start, I was not into that people should remember me as a good cricketer. I always said, you know, I want to be remembered as a good human being,” he added further.
