Former Indian cricketer backs Rohit Sharma to score big in Test Championship Final despite poor run in IPL 2023
After a two-month action in the power-packed 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, the focus will be shifted to the longest format of the game. Indian team is all set to take on Australia for the second edition of the Test Championship Final that is scheduled to be played at the Oval in England from June 7th to June 11th.
As India are already going without KL Rahul, who suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL game, some of the crucial players from the Indian squad have shown great form in the ongoing tournament. Both Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill recently hit two back-to-back for their teams respectively and are looking in good touch ahead of a big. While pacers, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj turned out to be pivotal players for their franchises, with Shami being the highest wicket-taker of the tournament until now
However, the main concern for India is the current form of their skipper Rohit Sharma. The 36-year-old didn’t have a great outing in IPL 2023 as he scored 313 runs from 14 matches played so far at an underwhelming average of 22.36 within two fifties. However, he looked in great touch in the previous game against Sunrisers Hyderabad as he scored 56 runs off 37 balls in a chase of 201. The fans will be expecting him to get back to his best for the upcoming clash against Australia.
‘We also have a great bowling attack like Australia’ – Venugopal Rao
Former Indian Cricketer Venugopal Rao backed the Indian skipper ahead of the final and asked the fans to not compare IPL with Test Cricket. He also said that both India and Australia are on the same level for winning the contest.
“Equal chances. We also have a great bowling attack like Australia. Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami are quality bowlers. The last time when they went to England, England players struggled against them. We deliver in condition as far as fast bowling is concerned,” said Venugopal Rao as quoted in CricketAddictor
“We have the best fast bowling attack in the world. We are coming after a lot of T20 cricket. I think our players are professional and will adapt to the conditions. Virat Kohli & Shubman Gill are in a good state of mind, Rohit also scored a century last time he was in England. You cannot compare the IPL with the World Test Championship final. When you play for your country, you have a different energy. Rohit will do well, because, before IPL, he got a century on turning tracks. We tend to forget. He will come good in the WTC final,” he further added.
