Former Indian Cricketer makes an interesting observation on Mayank Agarwal ahead of Indian T20 League auction
Even as India are squaring off against Bangladesh in the second Test at Dhaka on Day 2, the centre of attention from all the Indian fans will be on the Indian T20 League auction as 405 players will go under the hammer in Kochi. This is the event that makes fans wait with bated breath and anticipation to know whether their favourite player will join their favourite franchises.
The main focus will be centered on Cameron Green, Ben Stokes, and Sam Curran. There will be other Indian players such as Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey, who will be keenly looked at in the auction. Many believed that Aggarwal would go for big bucks because of him being an Indian opener and a captaincy candidate, however, Akash Chopra made an interesting observation on Agarwal.
Hyderabad and Gujarat will go for Agarwal- Akash Chopra
“Indian batters will most probably go for pretty cheap, probably even at base price, with Mayank Agarwal as an exception. I am not expecting teams bidding in crores to get Indian batters. Even Mayank may not cross double digits in crores in the auction. This is because most teams have their openers sorted.” Akash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
On another note, Chopra talked about the teams who could make the bid for Agarwal.
“Hyderabad and Gujarat should logically engage in a bidding war for Mayank. Logically, Sunrisers should win it, given their purse. But anything can happen in the auction.” Gujarat needs a good partner for Shubman Gill at the top and Hyderabad needs a good opening partner for Abhishek Sharma so they will go after him.
For Gujarat or Hyderabad, if they snap up Agarwal then they can get an overseas player and make their respective teams look more threatening. If at all Kane Willamson is not brought back by Hyderabad, then the Orange Army will have a captaincy option in Agarwal.
In Hyderabad’s case if Agarwal is brought for a low price, then they could get an overseas fast bowler to bowl at the death which will make the bowling attack look more potent.
