‘You don’t want to change entire support staff…..’ – Gautam Gambhir opens up on Rahul Dravid’s contract extension
Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has opened up about his emotions after his teammate Rahul Dravid went through two more years of extension as head coach. Notably, Dravid was looking non-committal after the ODI World Cup 2023 final loss for the position, but he later accepted it for two more years. On the other hand, VVS Laxman, who was making headlines for the next head coach, will continue as the NCA head as well as the Under-19 head coach.
The former India opener, Gautam Gambhir, feels it was a great thing that Dravid got an extension as the coach for 2024 T20, which is around the corner. In addition, the well-renowned cricket commentator is hopeful about India playing well and dominating cricket under his coaching skills.
“It’s a good thing because the T20 World Cup is around the corner and you don’t want to change the entire support staff, and it is good that Rahul has accepted it. Hopefully, we can continue to dominate and play good cricket, what India has done for a long period of time. The T20 format is different, challenging and hopefully, Rahul and the support staff can deliver. Congratulations to them,” Gautam Gambhir told ANI.

However, Rahul Dravid has also expressed his happiness after getting his tenure extended. The legendary cricketer has promised to take Indian cricket to the epitome of the next level with his coaching skills. Notably, the former India cricketer was appointed as coach after Team India’s defeat in the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, the great cricketer guided India to the top positions in all three formats, along with India as the runners-up in the ODI World Cup 2023 and the WTC 2023.
“I am genuinely proud of the culture we have set in the dressing room. It’s a culture that stands resilient, whether in moments of triumph or adversity. The skills and talent that our team possesses are phenomenal, and what we’ve stressed is following the right process and sticking to our preparations, which has had a direct impact on the overall result,” Rahul Dravid said.
