‘Playing three spinners might not be a bad option’ – Harbhajan Singh outlines India’s bowling strategy for ODI World Cup 2023 vs England

Team India will be facing defending champions England on October 29 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow for their sixth game of the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Co. have won all five games so far in the tournament and placed themselves in the top spot. However, former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh wants some possible changes in India’s starting lineup in their next clash of the ongoing marquee event.

The well-renowned cricket commentator wants there to be three spinners in the play against Jos Buttler and Co. in Team India’s upcoming clash. The former India spinner wanted the Men in Blue to use Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav to play the game against England, as the defending champions did not play well against the spinner. In addition, the cricketer-turned-politician feels that having three spinners in the squad is not a bad choice for Rohit Sharma and England batsmen won’t be able to trouble them much.

“Kuldeep Yadav’s form has been good, but I wonder if we will get to see three spinners play in the next game – Kuldeep, [Ravindra] Jadeja and Ashwin. It could be a possibility since England does not play spin well. As it is, England is not playing well in the World Cup, and if the ball starts spinning, I don’t think they will be able to do much better. Playing three spinners might not be a bad option,” Harbhajan Singh said.

However, the 43-year-old wants Mohammed Siraj to get the rest, as he has played five back-to-back ODI World Cup 2023 games. The Punjab-born cricketer feels that Mohammed Shami should get into India’s starting lineup over the RCB stalwart. Notably, the GT star picked up a 5-wicket haul in his first game of the ODI World Cup 2023 against the Kiwis and reduced them to a lower score, which helped them chase down the total with 12 balls to spare.

“Siraj can be rested. He has played back-to-back games. Shami has just come into the playing XI and has claimed a five-fer,” he added further.
