‘He charged at me…’- Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli’s wife lodged FIR against him for assault

In a shocking incident, former India batter Vinod Kambli has been booked by Mumbai police for allegedly abusing and assaulting his wife under the influence of alcohol. Kambli’s wife Andrea lodged an FIR against him at Bandra Police Station on Friday night.

According to Bandra police, an FIR has been lodged against him under IPC section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon) and 504 (Insult). As per the FIR, on Friday afternoon Kambli arrived at his house after drinking alcohol and started verbally abusing Andrea. Later he threw a broken panhandle and charged with a cricket bat at his wife. Meanwhile, his son witnessed the whole incident and tried to stop him.

A piece of FIR reads, “Despite trying to pacify him, he abused me and my son for no reason. He charged at us. After hitting the cooking panhandle, he charged again with a bat. I managed to stop him before leaving with my son, and rushed to the hospital.”

According to Andrea, she suffered head injuries and underwent treatment at a private hospital in Bandra before going to the police station, where she lodged the complaint. However, Kambli is yet to make any statement on the matter.

In a recent interview with Midday, 51-year-old Mumbai batter spoke about his struggle with alcohol and financial issues. “There are rules and regulations which everyone has to follow. If there are any rules that don’t allow you to do certain things, everyone must follow them. I will stop drinking immediately if told to do so…no problem at all!”

Kambli has represented India in 17 Tests, and 104 ODIs. In his brief Test career, Kambli has scored 1,084 runs at an average of 54.20. He also scored two double centuries in his short Test career. In 104 ODIs, Kambli scored 2,477 runs at an average of 32.59. Kambli has also worked with Sachin Tendulkar cricket academy as a coach.
