‘He exploited the loophole’ – Former India player’s big statement on Steve Smith over DRS in 3rd BGT Test Vs India

Steve Smith’s leadership during the third Test match between India and Australia in Indore left former India cricketer Parthiv Patel impressed. Australia smacked India hard during the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, bundling them twice in the span of two days. In the Holkar Stadium in Indore, 30 wickets were lost in the first two days. With this victory, the visitors got qualified for the World Test Championship final which will be played from June 7 to June 11 at The Oval in England.

Pat Cummins had to return home due to a family emergency, therefore Steve Smith replaced him as the captaincy of Australia for the third Test match. Smith led Australia to a good performance in the opening two days of the contest. In an interview with Cricbuzz, Parthiv claimed that Smith, Australia’s captain, had a better understanding of the game than  Cummins.

Nathon Lyon – Player of the Match

“Steve Smith’s captaincy was on point today. He rotated his bowlers really well, while also making sure he used the right bowler from the right end. He also looked very confident while taking DRS calls. Pat Cummins doesn’t have enough captaincy experience, but Smith has a lot of it,” the wicketkeeper-batter was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.

The 37-year-old said that he has found some loopholes in his captaincy. “There is a loophole in the rule. Steve Smith is aware of that and he exploited the loophole. The on-field umpire should avoid going to the third umpire if he is sure that it’s not out when there is an appeal for a stumping. The ideal solution is that the TV umpire should only review the stumping if the appeal is made only for a stumping. A caught behind should not be checked unless the fielding captain opts for a review,” stated the former Bangalore franchise player.

Australia won the third Test in the first session of Day 3. The Kangaroos won the match in the 19th over with nine wickets in hand. Australia’s veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance with the ball in both innings. He bagged a total of 11 wickets in the match.
