‘Fired for leaking the truth’ – Fans react to reports of Chetan Sharma’s sacking amidst sting operation controversy

A mega sting operation on current chief selector Chetan Sharma was recently conducted, which is one of the main talking points in the Indian cricketing fraternity at the moment. A lot of unknown details about the Indian cricket team, the players, the Indian Board as well as the decisions of some of the selectors were spoken about in the sting operation that went live on the news channel. 

Chetan Sharma was appointed the Indian National team’s chief selector in October 2020 but was sacked along with the other selectors after Team India’s dismal performance at the 20-20 Men’s World Cup that was held in Australia in October-November 2022. After the board announced new selectors, fans were surprised to see Sharma reappointed as the chief selector for the team along with a set of new selectors under him.

But after the sting operation conducted by Zee News, Chetan Sharma leaked confidential details about the rift between the then Indian Board President Sourav Ganguly and former Indian team captain Virat Kohli, which shocked everybody. Sharma revealed that because of Ganguly’s ‘dislike’ towards Virat Kohli, the latter was removed as captain of India.

Sharma also revealed that players are used to taking injections when they are injured to make sure they are fit for the coming game. Along with this, he spoke about how Indian team players such as Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav and Deepak Hooda usually visited his house to discuss their future with him.

The one good thing coming out of this operation is that Chetan Sharma revealed the equation between two major superstars of the team, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He added that both of them don’t have any rift between them but both of them do have an ego rift which sometimes might come in the way.

After this operation came to the public eye, there were rumours that Jay Shah, the Indian Board secretary will make a decision on Chetan Sharma. There have been reports on Twitter that he has made a decision and Chetan is set to lose out on his job as chief selector of the Indian Cricket Team.
