‘How long will you stick with it’ – Aakash Chopra questions England’s approach after losing second Ashes Test

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has questioned England’s approach after they lost the second Test of the ongoing Ashes series at the Lords Cricket Ground. Chopra questioned whether England will alter their ‘Bazball’ approach after going down by 0-2 in a five-match series.

Australia continued their domination over England as they won the second Test by 43 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the series. The visitors also registered a thrilling victory in the first Test in Birmingham after winning the match by 2 wickets on Day 5. In a video shared on his Youtube channel, Chopra was unsure whether England can continue with ‘Bazball’, especially considering their lack of potency in the bowling department.

“What about Bazball now? England are 2-0 down. Will they review their game plan? Where is Bazball going? I feel this team’s bowling is slightly ordinary. It is not up to the level of cricket that they want to play. It is a battle between philosophies. There is an entertaining brand of cricket that England want to play and then there is methodical cricket that Australia want to play,” Chopra said on his Youtube channel.

“Usman Khawaja is probably the flag bearer of that, he has played the most deliveries but has the least strike rate. It is not competitive but it is extremely effective. That’s what he is trying to do,” he further added.

Speaking further, Chopra also highlighted Australia’s conventional approach and said that their approach has been more successful thus far in the Ashes. He also wants to see England’s sustainable approach if they continue to lose.

“They have said as well that Test cricket will die if they don’t play like this. It is their thinking. It is a very noble thinking but for how long will you stick with it if the results don’t go in your favour, that’s something that we shall find out.”

Talking about the match, England skipper Ben Stokes played a magnificent knock of 155 runs off 214 balls while the hosts were struggling by losing wickets at regular intervals. However, his innings went in vain as they were bowled out for 327 runs and fell short of 43 runs from Australia’s target.
