‘I am not a huge fan’ – Aakash Chopra’s bold claim on Suryakumar Yadav playing in Tests

Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian batter, scored a valiant century against Sri Lanka in the final T20I, eventually helping the India team seal the series after winning the game by 91 runs, after putting on 228 runs on the board at the end of the first innings. The right-handed batter scored an unbeaten 112 runs and stunned the Indian crowd after scoring his third T20I hundred in just 43 innings.

Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricketer, opened up on claims to include the batter in the Test setup and said that one must refrain from getting obsessed with the batter, allowing him to freely play his game. Further, Chopra said that he is not a fan of Suryakumar playing in the longest format of the game.

We were extremely eager to do that with Rishabh Pant: Aakash Chopra

Citing Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill as an example, Chopra said that he would want the Indian batter to continue in the white-ball formats given that there is a 50-over World Cup set to take place in India later this year and a 20-20 World Cup is set to take place in a two years time.

“I feel let’s not get obsessed. It is our country’s tendency to get slightly obsessed, that if we get a player, we say he should be played in all three formats. At this point in time, I feel we are wanting to do that with Shubman Gill,” Chopra was quoted as saying on his YouTube channel.

“We were extremely eager to do that with Rishabh Pant earlier, that he is doing well, let’s play him in all formats. The same talk is happening with Suryakumar now because there is no doubt about the level at which he is batting,” said the former Indian cricketer further.

“I would still say that this is an ODI World Cup year, the T20 World Cup will also happen after two years, neither has he played Test cricket nor has he played much first-class cricket for a long time, although he did hit a century recently, but I am not a huge fan,” he added.
