‘I am used to play without Bumrah’ – Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma makes shocking remark on Jasprit Bumrah after losing to Bangalore in ITL 2023

In their first game of the Indian T20 League 2023, Mumbai was thrashed by Bangalore in M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 2. Inexperienced bowling cost Mumbai as Rohit Sharma and the company failed to defend 171 in 20 overs. Mumbai’s bowling was looking so weak that they even failed to get a breakthrough as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis toyed with them. Meanwhile, after losing the games India and Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma made a shocking remark about Jasprit Bumrah who is running out of cricket due to injury.

In recent times after every game, the skipper has been quizzed about Bumrah’s presence and fitness. Speaking on the same in the post-match press conference, Rohit said that he is now used to playing without Bumrah in international games and in Indian T20 League too. He also expressed his expectations from the young guns of the team.

After the game, while interacting with media, Rohit said, “From the last six to eight months I am used to playing without Jasprit Bumrah. Of course, this is a different setup but someone needs to put their hand up and step up. We can’t keep dwelling on it. Injuries are not in our control; we can’t do much about them. The other guys in the setup are quite talented as well. We need to give them that support. Just the first game of the season, there’s a lot to look forward to.”

“He showed a lot of courage”- Rohit Sharma praised Tilak Varma

In the first game of the season, apart from young Tilak Varma, not a single Mumbai batter showed courage to fight in the middle. Skipper Rohit Sharma also addressed it and praised the 20-year-old batter for his courageous innings. Rohit said that batting on their 50% ability, they posted 170 and could have done better, but he also hailed Tilak for his innings.

He said, “He is a positive person, quite talented as well. Some of the shots he played, showed a lot of courage. Hats off to Tilak to get us to a competitive total. It was a good pitch to bat on. We didn’t set any target but we didn’t even bat to half of our potential and we got to 170. Probably 30-40 runs more would have been ideal.”
