‘I told him you’ll have to say yes……’ – Sourav Ganguly discloses startling revelation about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy

Team India is all set to lock horns against the Netherlands for their last and final game of the league stage of the ODI World Cup 2023, slated to take place on November 12 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. However, ahead of the clash and the knockout games, former India cricketer Sourav Ganguly makes a shocking revelation about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

The former Indian Cricket Board President revealed that India’s great cricketer Rohit Sharma wasn’t ready to become the captain when RCB stalwart Virat Kohli stepped down. In addition, the former India captain forced the opening batsman to take the captaincy, irrespective of his wishes. The legendary cricketer reveals that Rohit Sharma was the best captain choice after Virat Kohli.

“Rohit Sharma wasn’t keen (on taking up India’s captaincy in all three formats). It had gone to a stage where I told him ‘you’ll have to say yes otherwise I’ll make the announcement.’ Because he is an outstanding captain. And after Virat Kohli left, he was the best man to lead India. I am not surprised by what I am seeing,” Sourav Ganguly said in a chat with Kolkata TV.

Moreover, the 51-year-old cricketer is extremely ecstatic to see the results of Team India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. The former batting legend also says that his IPL franchise was the most successful franchise that caught his attention, making him the Indian captain. Notably, Team India has won the 2018 and 2023 Asia Cup titles under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. In addition, the Men in Blue are unbeaten in the ODI World Cup 2023 under the captaincy of the 36-year-old skipper.

“Lot of cricket; Tests, ODIs, T20, IPL – he was already a captain there, lot of pressure. So he had a lot of his plate. But nothing can be bigger than being an India captain. I am happy that he took it and it makes me glad seeing the results,” he added further.
