‘I will also try to follow the same legacy’ – India’s skipper gives a big statement ahead of Women’s T20 League
The Mumbai franchise skipper for the Women’s T20 League, Harmanpreet Kaur stated that she will try her best to maintain the franchise legacy which been set by the Men’s team in the Indian T20 League so far. The Mumbai franchise is the most successful team in Men’s Indian T20 League as they have won five Indian T20 League titles so far, notably in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 under the leadership of Men in Blue skipper Rohit Sharma.
By acquiring one of the five teams in the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League, the five-time Indian T20 League champions have increased their support for women’s cricket. At the WTL 2023 auction, the Mumbai franchise shelled INR 1.80 crore to acquire Harmanpreet’s services, who has the most T20I caps and leads the Indian women’s team in runs scored.

“It’s a very emotional moment for me. I’ve seen the Mumbai franchise do so well on TV. And now, I’m going to be a part of it. I think it’s a great achievement and I am really looking forward to be part of this team,” Kaur was quoted as saying on the Mumbai franchise’s social media handle.
The 17-member Mumbai team’s captain in the Women’s T20 League’s inaugral season is Kaur. Since over ten years ago, she has been impressed by her male counterpart Rohit’s smart management of the Mumbai franchise .
“I will also try to follow the same legacy. We will also let the winning momentum keep going on. The way Rohit’s team was doing. That aggressive cricket they were playing. The most important thing is we will just go there (and) enjoy. This is a great moment for all the cricketers and we just want to be there give our 100% and just try to win all matches for the Mumbai franchise,” the Women in Blue franchise stated.
On Saturday, March 4, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, the Mumbai franchise will take on the Gujarat franchise in the opening game of the Women’s T20 League.
