‘If you don’t bring him now…’ – Former Pakistan player lashes out on Indian selectors for ignoring Sarfaraz Khan

Former Pakistan spinner, Danish Kaneria, has criticized the Indian selection committee for ignoring Sarfaraz Khan from the first two Tests against Australia. No one on Team India, in Kaneria’s opinion, is currently as reliable as Sarfaraz. He thinks Sarfaraz’s performance may be impacted by ignorance.

“If you don’t bring him now, then when? I don’t think anyone has a better form than Sarfaraz currently, even in the Indian team. He will get disheartened if you don’t raise his confidence or spirits. Keep an eye on him,” he said on his youtube channel.

Over 100 has been Sarfaraz’s average over the past three Ranji Trophy seasons. He averaged 136.42 runs per game over the last two Ranji Trophy seasons in just 12 games. In 18 innings, he not only hit 11 fifty-strikes but also seven centuries.

If you don’t give these players a chance, it’s not right: Danish Kaneria

The Mumbai batsman has 2,466 runs in 27 innings since 2019 at an average of 123.30, including 10 hundreds, including two double-hundreds, and one triple ton. He has also lived for five half-centuries.

In order to improve his confidence, Kaneria believes that the selectors should have at least included Sarfaraz Khan in the T20I team in place of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul.

“Sarfaraz Khan, who has scored well in domestic cricket, is being ignored. He should be part of the squad. If you don’t give these players a chance, it’s not right (zyati). He is scripting record after record and making lots of runs,” he asserted.

Sarfaraz Khan did not fit into their squad, but Sridharan Sharath, the national selector, admitted as much in a recent interview with Sportstar.

“He is certainly on our radar. In due course, he will get his due. While picking the team, we have to consider things like composition and balance,” he stated.

Chetan Sharma’s All India Selection Committee was criticized by former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar for disregarding batter Sarfaraz. Despite Sarfaraz’ strong batting performance in the domestic circuit, several present and past cricketers have expressed their dismay over his exclusion from the team.
