IND vs AUS: Mohammed Shami opens up on what India needs to turn things around on Day 2 of 2nd Test

Australia, batting first, scored 263 on the opening day of the second Test on a challenging but not frightening Arun Jaitley Stadium surface. Both Handscomb (72*) and Khawaja (81) batted for more than three hours. The veteran spin combo of India, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, were at their very best as they took three wickets each on the first day.

With four wickets lost in the first session of Day 2 of the second Test, India currently look to be in a spot of bother. India’s star players Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli stitched a fighting partnership of 59 runs for 5th wicket. First four wickets of the Indian innings were taken by Lyon, which came in the first session of the day.

Here is what Mohammed Shami about India’s plan going forward:

Mohammed Shami, who was the star in the first Innings for India with the ball, spoke to the media. He spoke about how a small lead is important for the Indian team. He said, “The opponent has only one fast bowler. We just need to be careful with bounce and turn. If we can get a small lead it will be very good for us.”

The Gujarat franchise bowler also spoke about how the pitch in Delhi is not different at all from the other wickets available in India. He said, “There is not a lot of difference you see with wickets in India. If you can get help with the new ball and can get the old ball to reverse… As a fast bowler, the main thing in Indian conditions is the area you bowl in and you have to maintain pace all along.”

The right-arm bowler then spoke about how important it was for him to bowl in the right areas. He said, “The pitch here is not much different from Nagpur, though runs were coming for Australia (in the morning session). But I tried to bowl in the right areas.”
