Indian Cricket Board announce IPL 2024 schedule, CSK to play tournament opener
So, finally, the wait has come to an end for the cricket fans who were eagerly waiting for the schedule of the Indian Premier League 2024 to be announced. IPL Chairman, Arun Dhumal made this announcement; he also assured that the cash-rich Indian franchise T20 tournament will be played completely in India with a management of dates given the General Elections to be held around the same time IPL 2024.
Dhumal also added that the schedule which has been announced now is only for the first 15 days of the tournament. The schedule for the later part of the tournament will be announced after the announcement of the dates of the General Elections 2024 by the Election Commission of India.
IPL 2024 to be played in the same old format of the tournament
Continuing last year’s pattern, the number of teams will be 10 this season as well; the teams will be divided into two groups A and B, having 5 teams each in a group. The timing of the evening matches will be 7.30 PM and on the days of double-header matches, the timing for the afternoon match will be 3.30 PM according to the Indian Standard Time.
As per the old format of the Indian Premier League, all teams will play matches both at home and away in the group stage of the tournament. Furthermore, the top 4 teams from the league stage will advance to the playoff stage; in the playoff stage, the number 1 and number 2 will take on each other in the first qualifier.
On the other hand, the teams in the 3rd and 4th spots will lock horns in the eliminator; subsequently, the eliminator’s winner will take on the loser of the first qualifier to qualify for the finals to play against the winner of qualifier one; the summit clash of the tournament will be played on May 26.
