‘Inteha ho gayi Intezaar ki’ – Fans react as Jasprit Bumrah set to miss Asia Cup 2023 after being ruled out for six months

The scenario involving Jasprit Bumrah worries the Indian Cricket Board. The speedster has already been sidelined for seven months and is likely to miss both the WTC Final and the Indian T20 League this year. As things aren’t getting better, the Board has advised Bumrah to follow medical advice and get surgery to fix his back condition.

The Cricket Board’s medical staff has recommended surgery after speaking with Bumrah’s doctors. For the cash-rich league and WTC Final, Bumrah has been delaying it. But since he is now likely to miss both, the India Board wants him to take the suggestion in order to at least remain healthy for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

“His situation is not good and not improving. There are suggestions of surgery for the back stress fracture. But as it will take nearly 4-5 months to recover, he has been ignoring it. But since he is not improving, the medical team has advised him to take the surgery route. That way, there will be a chance that he could be fit for the World Cup,” a senior Indian Cricket Board official was quoted as saying on InsideSport.

Bumrah is a great player but like all great players, he is stubborn too: An official

Bumrah still refuses to get surgery because he believes he will be okay for at least the WTC Final. But, by the end of the following week, the Indian Cricket Board would make a final decision after consulting with the NCA and the medical staff. Bumrah might take a flight to London for the surgery.

“Bumrah is a great player but like all great players, he is stubborn too. He doesn’t want to have a surgery as it could put him a lengthier path to recovery. But as the condition has been worsening instead of improving, it is important that the NCA steps in. We will take a call soon,” the official said.

Before the 20-20 World Cup last year, Jasprit Bumrah made a comeback after spending two months on the sidelines. But his quick return turned out to be disastrous. He could only bowl six overs before the 20-20 WC, in the New Zealand tour. He was anticipated to be healthy for the Bangladesh visit. But it never materialised. After starting to bowl again at the NCA, he was selected for the team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Bumrah was removed from the squad after once more complaining of back pain. Further imaging tests revealed that the stress fracture did not mend. He also missed the Border Gavaskar Trophy and the New Zealand series at home. He will now be unable to attend the World Test Championship Final and Indian T20 League 2023. India needs one more victory to guarantee a spot in the WTC final.
