IPL 2024 set to introduce two bouncers per over rule for bowlers

The Indian Cricket Board introduced a new rule for IPL 2024 on December 19. Notably, the bowlers can use two bouncers in an over from the next edition. The rule makes the contest very thrilling, both from the bat and the ball. According to reports, the rule has already been implemented in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and now it is set to be introduced in India’s home league.

Meanwhile, India’s pacer, Jaydev Unadkat, shared his opinion on how the rule can be important for the upcoming IPL. The Saurashtra skipper feels that the two bouncers will help them a lot, and it sets to give advantage to bowlers over batters. In addition, the star cricketer has also spoken about the importance of slow bouncers. The left-arm seamer says that such a small rule will have a huge impact in the next edition.

A big boost for bowlers in IPL 2024

“I do feel two bouncers an over is very much useful, and I feel it’s one of those things which gives the bowler an added advantage over batsmen. Because, for example, if I bowl a slower bouncer… the batsman in the previous case is sure that there’s no more bouncer coming. In this case, even if you bowl one slower bouncer in the first half of the over, you can still use one more (in the over). So, I feel it’s a very small change with a huge impact and as a bowler I feel it’s very important to have that rule,” Jaydev Unadkat said on ESPNCricinfo.

The 32-year-old cricketer, feels there will be more Yorkers bowling in the death overs, which is a big boost for the players. In addition, Jaydev Unadkat also spoke about how he can dismiss the batters in the death overs.

“So, it was becoming more of Yorker-oriented (bowling) in death overs for fast bowlers. Not it can be Yorker, slower ball and bouncers because of two bouncers an over. Even if you don’t bowl the second bouncer, the batsman still has that expectation that the bowler might bowl the second bouncer,” he added further.
