‘I was constantly talking to the coaches…’ – Ishan Kishan reveals his training regime after being benched in ODI World Cup 2023

Team India won their first T20I game of the five-match series against Australia on November 23 after losing to them in the ODI World Cup 2023 final on November 19 in front of their packed ground. Notably, Ishan Kishan, who struck out the half-century and stitched the great stand with Suryakumar Yadav, has opened up about his emotions after getting a place in India’s startling line-up for the T20I game. The left-handed batter was on the bench for the ODI World Cup 2023, except for his first two games.

The Mumbai Indians star revealed that he had analyzed himself after being benched in the marquee event. In addition, the top-order batter reveals that he has practised a lot in the nets. The great cricketer had talked with coaches about how to take the innings deep to win the games.

“During the World Cup, when I wasn’t playing, I asked myself before every practice session ‘What is important for me now? What I could do? I practised a lot in nets. I was constantly talking to the coaches about the game, and how to take the game deep. How to target certain bowlers,” Ishan Kishan said in the post-match conference.

I had to take my chances and I believed in myself: Ishan Kishan

However, the 25-year-old cricketer also opened up about the talk he had with Suryakumar Yadav about chasing the total. The star batter accepted that one can’t leave too many runs for the lower order as it makes their work too difficult while chasing. Ishan Kishan revealed that he had faith in himself that he would help in chasing down the total.

“Being a lefty against leg-spinner, I know how the wicket was as I had kept for 20 overs. When you are chasing 209, you need to target a bowler, who you can hit. I had a chat with Surya bhai that I’m going to take (on) this guy (Sangha) wherever he bowls because we need to get the runs and balls close. You can’t leave too many runs for the batters at the back. It won’t be easy for them to play the big shots straight away. I had to take my chances and I believed in myself,” he added further.
