‘It doesn’t mean applying pressure’ – Dinesh Karthik interprets definition of England’s ‘Bazball’ approach

Team India has locked horns against England for the first Test match on January 25, taking place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Notably, the English side is all set to use their Bazball approach, where Team India has a difficult task to win the series in their home soil conditions.

India’s star cricketer Dinesh Karthik has recently opened up about the misconception fans possess about England’s Bazball approach to Test cricket. The wicketkeeper batter revealed that Bazball doesn’t mean applying pressure but giving your best in the game to defeat the opponent no matter what the situation is in the game. In addition, the RCB stalwart feels it is about absorbing pressure greatly to win the game.

“Actually, I feel that the word Bazball isn’t understood well. It doesn’t mean applying pressure. It is actually about trying to be the best version of yourself. It basically means, at times when you have to absorb pressure, be courageous enough to do it and do it your way. That is the messaging that is going around. It is not about scoring runs at 6 or 7 runs an over,” Dinesh Karthik said on Indian Xpress.

But be very confident of what you can do in those situations with your game: Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik further said that the Bazball approach means that one should not surrender to the opponent, regardless of the situation in the game. Moreover, the stylish right-handed batter feels the Bazball approach makes him learn about how to be great in the game with the ball and the bat in  Test cricket.

“It means if you sense that the opponent isn’t there in the game, then go for it but if they are on top and doing a good job. Don’t try to surrender trying to do something you are not good at. But be very confident of what you can do in those situations with your game. With the ball it is all about constantly trying ways to get wickets,” he added further.
