‘It’s all nonsense’ – Sunil Gavaskar fumes over pitch controversy for ODI World Cup 2023 semifinal
Rohit Sharma and Co. thrashed New Zealand by 70 runs in their must-win encounter that helped them to the finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 15 at the iconic Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. However, ahead of the game, there were concerns about the pitch alternations favoring the Indian bowlers in their knockout games.
Speaking of the same subject, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at the critics and told them to stop making such baseless remarks about Indian cricket. In addition, the well-renowed cricket commentator feels that people are saying to attack the controversy over their team’s performances in the ODI World Cup 2023.
“All the morons who were talking about the pitch change. Just stop. Stop taking potshots at Indian cricket. People have said a lot of things to attract eyeballs or whatever it is. It’s all nonsense,” Sunil Gavaskar said while speaking on Star Sports after the game.
If you are a good enough team, you play on that pitch and you win: Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar clarified that the pitch was changed before the toss to help both teams. The legendary cricketer believes that it was not changed during the middle innings or after the toss to help only one team in the game. Moreover, the former India skipper believes if you are a good team, you can easily win irrespective of the pitches, and he told critics to stop saying anything about Team India.
“The pitch was there and even if it was changed, it was there before the toss for both the teams. It was not changed in the middle of the innings. It was not changed after the toss was done. If you are a good enough team, you play on that pitch and you win. India has done that. So stop talking about pitches. Already they are talking about Ahmedabad and the second semifinal hasn’t even taken place. They are talking about the pitch being changed in Ahmedabad. Nonsense,” he added further.
