‘Its surely going to be …’ – Brian Lara expresses excitement ahead of 2023 ODI World Cup on Instagram
Former West Indian batting great Brian Lara is keen for the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The 54-year-old recently took to Instagram and shared his excitement for the tournament which is being held in India. While Brian Lara is excited for the start of the tournament the former West Indies captain is also sad.
West Indies for the first time will not be part of the ODI World Cup tournament. The two-time champions famously crashed out during the Qualifying tournament which was held in Zimbabwe. This left many of the former Caribbean greats shocked at the sad state of affairs the team finds itself in.
The first game of the 2023 ODI World Cup got off to a great start on Thursday. England and New Zealand played their first game in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Kiwis won the toss and decided to bowl first. Jos Buttler and his English side are the defending world champions.
Former West Indian skipper Brian Lara recently was active on the social media site Instagram. The 54-year-old began by writing “Whilst the entire West Indies, its diaspora and countless worldwide fans are still coming to terms with the reality that the Men in Maroon got shoved off the flight to India by Sri Lanka and the Netherlands… The rest of the cricket fraternity is ready for WC 2023”
The former Left-handed batting great also mentioned how the Indian Cricket Board and the Apex Cricket Body put up great shows. The great from Trinidad also wrote, “But speaking as a former cricketer, when the show is done and the real spectacle begins we are all going to be anxiously waiting to see who gets knocked out, who makes it to the semis and who will emerge as the eventual finalists, winner and player of the World Cup.”
Brian Lara shares his excitement on Instagram
Like the rest of the Indian cricket fans, Brian Lara too is hopeful of seeing a great 2023 ODI World Cup. Addressing the Indian coach, Brian Lara wrote “Expect six weeks of celebrations, but also heartbreaks and disappointments. However you twist it, India will jump out as favourites along with England. I do have a message for my friend Rahul Dravid. GO AND WIN IT!!!
The former Caribbean great also had a few words of advice for Rahul Dravid. “I have some advice as well and I hope he takes it in the spirit it was meant. I urge him to eradicate the notion and the appearance that one or two of his extremely talented batters can always pull India through”
The 2023 World Cup is going to see ten teams play for the biggest prize in ODI Cricket history. Sharing his views Lara wrote “In all World Cups, there comes a moment when a team and its players are asked to show their true mettle, to demonstrate what they’re made of at the most crucial time”
The former West Indies skipper had words of caution for India before signing off. “While I feel Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma and India can raise the cup, cricket is known for its unpredictability, and anything can happen in a tournament like this. Let’s hope for a thrilling and competitive World Cup with memorable moments for all fans to enjoy. May the best team emerge as champions! Good luck to all,”
