‘Jasprit Bumrah ko ab bhool jao…’ – former India all-rounder sheds expectations over Bumrah’s comeback

Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022 due to a back injury. His prolonged injury has been one of the biggest concerns for the Indian team management and has forced them to move ahead without him. However, according to recent reports, Bumrah will need five to six months for recovery and will not be participating in the upcoming Test Championship finals and World Cup.

According to some reports, Bumrah will undergo surgery in New Zealand and will rehab in NCA after that. Meanwhile, former India all-rounder Madan Lal asks fans to shed their expectations from Bumrah and let him recover fully. World Cup winner legend all-rounder believes that Umesh Yadav could be Bumrah’s replacement in England if India makes it into the finals of the Test Championship.

Speaking on Sports Tak, Madan Lal said, “They will take Umesh [to Test Championship final]. There you need at least 3 pacers so only one spinner might play and the rest will be fast bowlers. Bumrah ko ab bhool jao. Usko Chhor dijiye aap (Forget Bumrah. Leave him out of the equation). When Bumrah returns, we will see then. Use whatever you have. What is the guarantee? No wonder when he will return – maybe in 1 to 1.5 years. He has not played in so long. It means his injury is very serious.”

Jasprit Bumrah to undergo back surgery in New Zealand

Meanwhile, According to the latest reports, Bumrah is set to fly to New Zealand to get specialized treatment. Star pacer will get the same treatment that helped former Kiwi bowler Shane Bond to extend his career. Notably, Bond also serves as the bowling coach for Mumbai and it may have contributed to the Indian fast bowler’s decision to target the Christchurch surgeon.

However, in absence of Jasprit Bumrah Mumbai franchise will also have to rethink its strategies for the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League. They will need to zero in a pacer to support English speedster Jofra Archer. Mumbai will start its campaign against Bangalore on April 2 at M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.
