‘KL Rahul deserves a guard of honour’ – Star India opener trolled after surviving on Day 1 of 2nd Test vs Australia

India faced the visitors at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi after defeating Australia in the opening game by an inning and 132 runs. The game began on February 17. Australia skipper Pat Cummins chose to bat first after winning the toss. Suryakumar Yadav was replaced by Shreyas Iyer for team India, while Matt Renshaw and Scott Boland were replaced by Travis Head and Matthew Kuhnemann for the Australian team.

David Warner and Usman Khwaja, the Kangaroo openers, got things started well as they combined a partnership of 50 runs until Warner was bowled by right-arm seamer Mohammad Shami with the score at 15.

Right-handed batter Marnus Labuschange entered the crease following Warner’s dismissal and formed a partnership with Khawaja. Until Labuschange was bowled by the off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, the pair had a 41-run partnership. After making just 18 runs, which included four boundaries, he returned to the pavilion.

India in control after end of Day 1

Steven Smith, former captain of Australia, was dismissed by Ashwin for a duck. Ashwin dismissed Australia’s two best batters in the same over. Travis Head, a left-handed batter who joined Khawaja at the crease after the loss of two consecutive wickets, was dismissed after making just 12 runs, including one four and one six respectively.

Australia were bundled out for just 263 runs. The highest run scorer for the visitors was Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb. Khawaja scored 81 runs which included 12 boundaries and a six. Handscomb scored unbeaten 72 runs which included nine boundaries.

For the hosts, the wicket-takers in the first innings were Shami, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Shami took four wickets whereas spinners Ashwin and Jadeja grabbed three wickets each. Shami’s figure after the completion of the first innings was 14.4-4-60-4 and on the other side the spinning duo’s figures were 21-4-57-3 and 21-2-68-3.

India while batting played nine overs. In that nine overs, India scored 21 runs. Skipper Rohit Sharma is batting on 13 runs which included one four and, on the other hand, Rahul is batting on 4 runs.
