‘3-4 months ago, everybody was abusing me……’ – KL Rahul opens up on social-media criticism after his magnificent ton in 1st Test vs SA

Team India has locked horns against South Africa for the first Test game in Centurion. Notably, KL Rahul’s magnificent tonne helped India post a respectable total against the home team. However, the wicketkeeper batter has opened up about the social media criticism he faced while he was injured. He was not part of India until after he sustained the injury in the IPL 2023.

KL Rahul reveals that social media is the biggest pressure. In addition, the 31-year-old cricketer feels that today people are praising him as he smashed the century, but the fans were abusing him three to four months ago, because of his poor form. Meanwhile, the middle-order batter reveals that it does not affect him.

“Social media is a pressure. Today I have scored a hundred so people are singing praises. Three to four months ago, everybody was abusing me. It’s part of the game, but I can’t say it doesn’t affect you; it does,” KL Rahul said being quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

I try to walk in with a very free and empty mindset: KL Rahul

The LSG skipper reveals that during the middle order, he didn’t get a chance to plan much as the wickets were constantly falling and he wasn’t able to stitch the stand with any. Moreover, the right-handed batter says that he didn’t have any plans to score a century and went on the ground with an empty mindset against South Africa.

“Batting in the middle order, what I’ve realized is that you can’t really plan your innings all that much. When you walk in, there’s a situation in front of you. The game tells you how you need to play and what you need to do in that time and in that moment. That’s what I try to do. I try to walk in with a very free and very empty mindset when I’m batting in the middle order, and then see what the game demands of me and then try and do my best in that moment,” he added further.
