‘Test cricket, we are over-rated……’ – Kris Srikkanth takes dig at Team India ahead of 2nd Test vs SA

Team India is all set to face South Africa in the second Test game, slated to take place on January 3 in Cape Town. Notably, the visiting sides have already lost the first Test game. However, they aim to win the second Test game against the Proteas to level up the series. However, former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth made some audacious claims about Team India’s Test format.

The former India opener feels the Men in Blue are overrated in Test cricket. In addition, the well-renowned cricket commentator accepted that the team was outstanding when Virat Kohli was the captain. The 64-year-old cricketer feels that Team India should forget about their rankings, as few players have not performed up to their potential.

“Test cricket, we are over-rated. I think it was a phase of 2-3 years…when Virat Kohli was the captain of the team, we were outstanding. We dominated in England, we fought hard in South Africa, we won in Australia. Had a good phase for 2-4 years. We have to forget the ICC rankings. We are always 1-2, 1-2. It’s a combination of having over-rated cricketers and people who have not performed up to their potential,” Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

India have to just look at how you have performed in the last two years, last 18 months: Kris Srikkanth

The 1983 World Cup-winning member feels Men in Blue are overrated in T20I cricket as well. However, the former India selector feels Team India is extremely good in ODI cricket, irrespective of their loss in the ODI World Cup 2023 final.
“But you can keep on saying that we scored in Australia, we scored in England. You have to just look at how you have performed in the last two years and last 18 months. In T20 cricket India is highly over-rated. ODI cricket, we are a fantastic team. What happens in ODIs, in the semifinals, finals, it’s just a one-off match. It’s a luck factor, a lot depends on luck in these matches,” he added further.
