‘The one in 2011 were the strongest Indian sides in history’ – Sunil Gavaskar’s bold verdict on team India’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad
Team India is all set to lock horns against Australia on October 8 in Chennai for the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, the Men in Blue didn’t get a single ball chance to play in warm-up matches after rain halted the play. Rohit Sharma and Co. recently won the Asia Cup 2023 and the series win over Australia, which makes them favourites to lift the title. However, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels this team’s squad is not the strongest line-up.
The legendary cricketer feels the 2011 ODI World Cup was the strongest side that clinched the title. However, the well-recognized cricket commentator has opened up about India’s skipper Rohit Sharma’s hard work and dedication. The former batter says that the 36-year-old skipper wants to create history for the upcoming ODI World Cup, as created by Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni. Moreover, former India skipper feels Rohit Sharma definitely aims to win the title on November 19 to delight Indian fans.
“I don’t think this is by far India’s stronger team ever the one in 2011 that won the title is the strongest Indian side in history. There are times when you fail to find a place in the team, and you need to work hard after that. Rohit Sharma did the same, and he was ultimately rewarded. He would want to replicate what Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni did in the past. He will want to lift that World Cup trophy on November 19th and delight all the Indian fans,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
I am not interested in ODI World Cup 2023 warm-up matches: Sunil Gavaskar
Meanwhile, the former top-order batter seems unbothered about India’s warm-up matches. The cricket analyst feels the Men in Blue are confident after a series win over a strong visiting Australia ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023.
“I am not interested in warm-up matches. All 15 members of the squad get a chance in warm-up matches. However, there were just 11 players on the field during India’s series against Australia. It was mandatory to win there,” he added further.
