‘Mr. World Cup returns’ – Fans react as England coach strongly hints at Ben Stokes’ comeback for their next clash against South Africa

The England cricket team must be missing star batsman Ben Stokes, who missed their first three games owing to a hip ligament injury. Notably, the Jos Buttler side has lost two games out of three in their ODI World Cup 2023, placing them at the bottom of the points table after losses over New Zealand and Afghanistan. However, England’s head coach, Matthew Mott, has recently provided fresh updates at all-rounder Ben Stokes injury and updated about whether he will play their next clash against South Africa or miss out.

The former Australia coach reveals that they are taking good care of Ben Stokes. However, the coach reiterated that the medical staff is confident enough to allow him to play in the game against South Africa. The former Australian cricketer called the English all-rounder the spiritual leader who is assessing how to mark their way back in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.

“We’ve obviously been relatively conservative with him, but the medical staff were always confident that South Africa was a game we could target. He’s like the spiritual leader of the group in many ways, and he certainly spoke really well after the game the other day, and spoke about that need to really assert ourselves,” Matthew Mott said.

Ben Stokes guided England to win the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup

The 50-year-old coach also talks about the current situation on the team. In addition, the former batsman feels the English side is lacking in two respects: their confidence and their general attitude, which make them lose their games. Moreover, the Queensland-born cricketer feels the bowling partnership with bat and bowl will help them be braver in the games of ODI World Cup 2023.

“The boys are trying really hard. But the two things that we’re probably missing are the confidence – to puff your chest out, go out there and really take the game on – and then it’s just our general attitude, our ability to do the little things: bowl in partnerships when we’re bleeding from one end… and then with the bat, just being a little bit braver,” he added further.
