Mohammed Shami gives two cents on Mitchell Marsh placing legs on World Cup Trophy

The act of Mitchell Marsh laying his feet on the World Cup Trophy has stirred controversy. Notably, many who consider the Trophy as a valuable and a respectable entity, have criticized the Australian cricketer for his act. However, others may consider the Trophy to be a mere metal piece which is given to the winners for their achievement, do not consider it to be much of an issue.

However, Marsh was seen with his feet placed on the Trophy. Australia had won the ODI World Cup 2023 after beating India in their own turf in front of a packed stadium in Ahmedabad. As claimed by their captain Pat Cummins himself, Australia indeed silenced the crowd and won the Trophy with their tactical approach and incredible display of mental battle.

Meanwhile, the Indian players and fans were deeply hurt after the loss. Many of them were more hurt by the fact that India dominated the tournament till the final but, could not win the only match that would give them the title of the World’s best team. However, one of the Indian players, Mohammed Shami, played a key role in India’s campaign, spoke about the team’s performance in the tournament.

Mohammed Shami expressed that he was not happy with the eventual result, but happy to have played a big role in the team by reaching the final. Furthermore, Mohammed Shami spoke about Mitchell Marsh placing his feet on the Trophy. The Indian bowler was of the opinion that Marsh must not have placed his feet on the Trophy. “I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fight, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy,” said Mohammed Shami.

Shami had a great tournament as a bowler. Notably, the 33-year-old claimed 24 wickets in 7 innings in the tournament, including a 4-wicket haul and three 5-wicket hauls. In the semifinal of the tournament, Mohammed Shami registered his career best spell of 7/57 against New Zealand, which also happens to be the best ODI spell by an Indian bowler. Despite his incredible efforts, India could not win the tournament.
