Murali Karthik slams Sunrisers Hyderabad management for their poor decision making

Abdul Samad was among the players that the team decided to hold onto before the mega auction in 2022. The young player has appeared in a number of impressive cameo appearances for the team, but many feel he hasn’t yet lived up to his potential with the Sunrisers. Throughout the 2022 season, he only appeared in two games for the team; however, this year, he registered 62 runs in three games, with his highest total being an unbroken 32.

Washington Sundar, an all-rounder, who was put to bat at number nine against MI and scored 10 runs off six deliveries after being run out during the 18th over of the run chase, is, in Kartik’s opinion, being underutilized by SRH.

Murali Karthik spoke to Cricbuzz about some of the decisions that Sunrisers Hyderabad management have made in their first five games.

He said, “I’m sorry, I never criticise anyone because we have all played the game. We are sitting comfortably in this AC room wearing the jackets, it’s not easy. But the faith that they have shown in Abdul Samad, I’ve never understood that. He has never made that impact. Washington Sundar is such a good player, has played for India. Why isn’t he utilized? If you keep repeating such mistakes, you will remain lower in the points table.”

Samad had a dismal performance on Tuesday, scoring nine runs off of 12 deliveries and being run out in the last over of the game. The 21-year-old Jammu and Kashmiri batsman made his IPL bow in the 2020 season and won over both cricket fans and ex-players with his power-hitting. Samad scored runs at a strike rate of 170.75 while primarily batting in the lower middle order. On Tuesday, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team lost to the Mumbai Indians by 14 runs, incurring their third defeat in as many games. The Sunrisers struggled to put up solid partnerships while chasing a 193-run mark at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
