PCB Chief Najam Sethi makes outrageous claim about India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi has made an absurd claim as to why he believes the Indian Cricket Board is hesitant to send its team to Pakistan, despite the fact that there has been an ongoing dispute between India and Pakistan over the Asia Cup due to India’s refusal to head to Pakistan for the regional event scheduled to be held later this year.

Sethi asserted his assumption that India is wary of falling to Pakistan anywhere, including within its own borders. Sethi spoke about how teams of other sports have visited the country and didn’t understand the problem the Indian Cricket Board is suggesting. He said, “The Indian bridge, volleyball and kabaddi teams have visited Pakistan. So, what’s the problem with the Indian cricket team coming to Pakistan? My suspicion is that India is afraid of losing to Pakistan in India and India is afraid of losing to Pakistan in Pakistan.”

In reaction to speculations indicating perhaps India vs Pakistan World Cup encounter might be staged in Ahmedabad, Sethi stated his perspective on the issue, citing probable difficulties plus a suspected political aspect surrounding the venue selection. “When I heard this statement, I smiled and said to myself – ‘this is one way to make sure we don’t come to India’. If you had said Chennai or Kolkata, it might have made sense.”

The less said about that the better- Sethi

Pakistan chief Najam Sethi then also made a cryptic statement regarding their World Cup clash and hinted at the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, “The less said about that, the better. It certainly gave the impression that this is a red herring being thrown in our way to tell us – ‘hey, we are going to play you in Ahmedabad and you watch out.’ You know, who rules Ahmedabad!”

There is still no official confirmation from the Indian Cricket Board and the Pakistan Cricket Board regarding the Asia Cup that is set to take place this year in September. Moreover, all the World Cup scheduled matches are still reported and no official news has come from the Indian Cricket Board.
