‘Pichli baar kya bola thaa, Aukaat’ – Fans ecstatic as Rohit Sharma scores spectacular hundred against Australia in Nagpur Test

India captain Rohit Sharma scored a century (171-off 100*) on Day 2 of the first Test against Australia of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Friday, February 10. Scoring his first 100 in the longest format, Rohit created history becoming the first Indian skipper to score centuries in all three formats of the game. The right-handed batter reached this milestone that even Virat Kohli and India’s most successful captain MS Dhoni failed to achieve while leading India. The BGT 2023 is his third Test as India captain and 46th overall.

India took a crucial lead in the first innings with the captain’s outstanding performance with the bat. Meanwhile, former India captain Virat kohli’s lack of form in Test matches continues as he failed to score a good number in the series opener. Kohli who got to have a good start before lunch break was dismissed after the lunch break by the debutant Todd Murphy. Kohli became Murphy’s fourth victim on the first ball of the 52nd over of India’s innings. Murphy, who was on a roll, dismissed KL Rahul on Day 1 and the other three Indian batters on Day 2.

Becoming a skipper who scored the three-figure mark in Test, T20Is, and One Day Internationals (ODI), Rohit joined Pakistan captain Babar Azam, former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, and former Sri Lanka captain Tillakaratne Dilshan to become the fourth batter to score centuries in all three formats of the game as a captain.

Rohit Sharma scored his maiden ODI century as India captain against Sri Lanka in 2017 in Mohali. The 35-year-old cricketer’s first and only T20I century as Indian skipper was also against Sri Lanka in December 2017 in Indore. Rohit, who is playing his first Test since March 2022, has scored his second straight century in international cricket. He ended the long wait for his 30th ODI hundred after scoring against New Zealand on January 24 in Indore. The century against Australia is his ninth Test century and eighth at home.
