‘You have seen a lot of ups and downs…….’ – Rahul Dravid recalls Akash Deep’s inspiring journey on Day 1 of 4th Test vs England

Team India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, exchanged a few heartwarming words about Akash Deep and narrated his life story while handing the India cap to him. Notably, the Bengal pacer made his Test debut during the fourth Test match, which took place on February 23 in Ranchi. The right-arm pacer made his great debut as he went on to scalp three wickets on Day 1 of the fourth Test match against England.

However, Rahul Dravid had recently opened up about his journey ahead of the game. The former India skipper talks about the hardships he faced in his journey and how Akash Deep was inspired by the 2007 T20 World Cup win, which helped him pursue cricket as a full-time career.

“Akash Deep your journey started from a place named Baddi, which is roughly 200 km from here. You have faced a lot of hardships in this journey. Have worked hard. You have seen a lot of ups and downs. You on your own, moved from Baddi to Delhi to play cricket. Deep was inspired by the 2007 T20 World Cup win. You stayed alone in Delhi and put in the effort,” Rahul Dravid said in a video posted by the Indian Cricket Board.

Rahul Dravid also talks about Akash Deep’s mother’s presence in his debut Test game. In addition, the former batting legend gave his best wishes to the debutant and handed him his dream debut Test cap ahead of the game.

“It is a special feeling for you as your mother is also here along with some of your family members. It is unfortunate that your father and elder brother are no more. But we are sure that they are blessing you from wherever they are. You have worked hard to reach here this has been your dream. We are happy that we are here with you to fulfil this dream.
