‘India would feel they have missed a massive trick……’ – Legendary cricketer slams Rohit Sharma’s captaincy on Day 2 of 1st Test game vs SA
Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri expressed his disappointment in Rohit Sharma’s captaincy on Day 2 of the first Test game in Centurion. Notably, South Africa is in the dominant position at the end of Day 2, and they will continue looking at the great momentum on Day 3 as well.
However, the well-renowned cricket commentator has pointed out the few things that India’s captain had missed, which puts the home team in a commanding position over Team India. The former India head coach feels that Rohit Sharma’s decision to start the game with Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna was wrong after lunch. In addition, the legendary cricketer feels Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj would have given the nod over any other two pacers.
“On any pecking order, these two (Shardul and Prasidh) would have been the last to start the proceedings (after lunch). That’s something that we’ve discussed multiple times when I was the coach. And more often than not, we decided to go with the best two bowlers at the start of the session. If you cast your mind back, India would feel they have missed a massive trick in the first half hour of play. Two bowlers they started with that tactically was a big mistake,” Ravi Shastri said during the commentary.
This is something Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma must have thought: Ravi Shastri
The former batting legend feels India missed the trick on Day 2 of the first Test game. Moreover, the cricket analyst slams India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, and head coach, Rahul Dravid, and questions their decision during the break ahead of lunch.
“Clearly, India missed the trick. This is something Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma must have thought about during the break and then decided to go with Prasidh and Shardul,” he added further.
