Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli only members from India’s 2011 ODI World Cup-winning squad to find a place in 2023 squad

Team India has been gearing up to win the ODI World Cup 2023, which is set to commence on October 5. Notably, the Men in Blue last won the ODI World Cup back in 2011 when the MS Dhoni-led side defeated Sri Lanka during the final match at Wankhede Stadium. The legendary cricketer MS Dhoni finished off the game with a six, which still gives fans goosebumps.

Following the win in 2011, Team India lost the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups in semi-finals against Australia and New Zealand, respectively. However, this time, Rohit Sharma and Co. are entering as the first-ranked ODI team. In addition, the Men in Blue had won the Asia Cup 2023 as well as a bilateral series against Australia, which makes them favourites to lift the trophy for the ODI World Cup 2023 on their home soil.

Interestingly, India’s star cricketers Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin are the only two cricketers who played in the 2011 ODI World Cup under the captaincy of legendary cricketer MS Dhoni. In addition, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma has been left out of the squad as wicketkeeper batter MS Dhoni wanted to keep Piyush Chawla over him in the final 15-member squad.

Virat Kohli may break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of ODI century in the ODI World Cup 2023

However, this time Rohit Sharma is leading the side and will be looking to win the marquee event. Notably, India’s stalwart Virat Kohli has lit up the Asia Cup 2023 owing to his spectacular form, especially against Pakistan. The stylish right-handed batter is gearing up to break Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record of ODIs century in the upcoming marquee event.

Meanwhile, star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was lucky enough to get a place in the ODI World Cup 2023. India’s all-rounder Axar Patel’s absence owing to injury has marked his way into the final 15-member squad. Notably, the great all-rounder has given terrific performances during the first two ODIs against Australia, which have grabbed the attention of the cricketing fraternity as well as pushed selectors to put his name in the squad.
