England star cricketer Rehan Ahmed faces visa issue at Rajkot airport ahead of 3rd Test match vs India
England experienced further visa issues as star cricketer Rehan Ahmed was refused entry from Hirasar airport in Rajkot due to insufficient paperwork. Notably, some sources confirmed that the star bowler’s single-entry visa prohibited him from visiting India again following England’s mid-series break in Abu Dhabi. The England cricket team went to Dubai for the break ahead of the third Test match.
The local government managed to resolve the leg-spinner issue temporarily after a delay, and England is optimistic that the matter will be resolved completely within the next 24 hours. Notably, each member of the travelling squad and support staff arrived at the team hotel in Rajkot on Monday for the second Test match, which is slated to take place on February 15.
“The England team has been advised to process the visa again which will be happening in the next two days. Player was allowed to enter the country with the rest of the team and he will be appearing in practice on Tuesday,” the Indian Cricket Board official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Rehan Ahmed will continue to prepare with the rest of the squad ahead of the third Test: ECB
Meanwhile, the England Cricket Board has also confirmed that there is some discrepancy in the paperwork for which the visa got delayed. The board further says that the correct visa is set to be issued, and he will soon be reaching the host country, India, for the third Test match. In addition, the ECB has also thanked the local authorities who supported resolving such a matter.
“We were advised, on returning to India, that there was a paperwork discrepancy with Rehan Ahmed’s visa. The local authorities at Rajkot Airport were supportive, enabling Rehan entry on a temporary visa. The correct visa should be processed and issued in the coming days. He will continue to prepare with the rest of the squad ahead of the third Test,” the ECB said via a statement on Tuesday morning.
