‘We’ve ticked a lot of boxes…’ – Rohit Sharma opens up after India’s T20I series win vs Afghanistan

Team India won the second T20I game against Afghanistan by six wickets at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on January 14. Notably, the Men in Blue have sealed the T20I series by 2-0, and they will be looking to whitewash the series to boost their preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024, which will start on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA.

However, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma had opened up about the series win and expressed his emotions. The 36-year-old skipper feels the hosts have ticked all the boxes in the last two games they have played so far. Moreover, the stylish right-handed batter heaps praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made 68 runs from 34 balls, featuring five fours and six sixes, to give a flying start, as well as Shivam Dube, who also hammered an unbeaten 63 runs from 32 balls to help India chase down the total with 26 balls to spare.

“One thing is talking about it, but to actually go there and play that way is a proud feeling. The last two games, we’ve ticked a lot of boxes. They’ve had a great couple of years, Jaiswal has played Test cricket now and even T20I. He has shown what he is capable of. He has the talent and has a great range of shots. Dube is a big guy, very powerful and can take on the spinners. That is his role and he has come out and played two crucial innings for us,” Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation.

I’ve cherished every moment I have spent here: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma also recalled his career after the India win. The opener started his career back in 2007 as a lower-order batter and is now playing 150 T20I games as the captain of Team India.

“It is a great feeling, it has been a long journey starting way back in 2007. I’ve cherished every moment I have spent here. We have been clear with what we wanted to do, very clear message to everyone and when you see a performance like that, you can be really proud,’ he added further.
