Team India is gearing up to win the title of the ODI World Cup 2023 under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Notably, the Men in Blue last won the marquee event back in 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni, whereas former India skipper Virat Kohli wasn’t able to clinch any titles for the nation. However, India’s stalwart Rohit Sharma has recently opened up about his captaincy skills.

The opening batter reveals that he believes he is not the best player out of the other playing members during the play. In addition, the 36-year-old skipper believes in bringing the best out of the rest of the 10 players in the game to win the match. Talking about him, Rohit Sharma is one of the biggest admirers of hard work. The top-order batter missed out on the 2011 ODI World Cup, while he was the leading run scorer in the 2019 World Cup. This time, leading Men in Blue as the skipper.

“The way I think about Captaincy, you are not the most important person, the other 10 are, that is my philosophy because eventually, you have to get the best out of the other 10 players,” Rohit Sharma on The Indian Express.

The Mumbai-born cricketer believes that 26–27 is the ideal age to get capacity; however, this does not go according to one’s wishes. Moreover, the stylish right-handed batter accepted that he had to wait for his turn to be named as the skipper as MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli were in the queue, and that’s absolutely fair to him.

“Obviously, you want to be at your peak for this, say when you are 26-27. But you cannot always get what you want. You are talking about the Indian captaincy and there have been stalwarts in the Indian team. Many more players deserved to be the captain of the team. I had to wait for my turn and that’s absolutely fair enough. The guys before, Virat was before me, so was MS (Dhoni),” he added further.
