‘I felt they missed…’ – Legendary cricketer outlines where Australia lost their opening game of ODI World Cup 2023 against India

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has the habit of making headlines wherever his posts go viral on social media. Notably, this time there was no difference. The former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar recently shared a heartwarming note about India’s clinching win in their opening game of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The 2011 ODI World Cup-winning star was a bit shocked after Pat Cummins opted to bat first, winning the toss. In addition, the legendary cricketer heaped praise on Indian bowlers as they reduced Australia to 199 runs during the play. The 50-year-old cricketer says that Pat Cummins and Co. had a great start as they restricted Team India to 2/3; however, the left-arm spinner in their squad could have made the difference in their opening game of the marquee event.

“I was surprised to see Australia bat first after winning the toss. Commendable performance by the Indian bowlers to restrict them to 199. Australia started well but I felt they missed a left-arm spinner on this surface,” Sachin Tendulkar wrote on X.

Meanwhile, the former opening batter has lauded the partnership between KL Rahul and Virat Kohli during the game. The former India skipper feels that both batters took their time and executed great shots in the play. Moreover, the Bharat Ratna awardee feels balls come to the bat more in the second half of the game, which helps them chase down the total.

“The partnership between Virat and Rahul sealed the game for us. They very smartly took their time and were able to execute some superb shots. The ball surely came onto the bat much better in the second half of the game. Congratulations to #TeamIndia on a good start,” he added further.
