‘It will be a little harsh to drop Prasidh….’ – Sanjay Manjrekar opens up on India’s possible changes in 2nd Test vs SA

Team India lost the first Test against South Africa in Centurion. Notably, the side will be looking to get the win in the next Test to level up the T20I series by 1-1 in Cape Town. However, there are strong possibilities for the new squad of Team India, as they suffered the loss in the first Test by 32 runs and an inning.

Speaking about the same subject, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has opened up about possible changes in India’s squad heading into the second Test. Notably, the well-renowned cricket commentator feels that Prasidh Krishna, who was a bit costly in the opening Test, should not get dropped despite his poor showcase in Test cricket.

“It will be a little harsh to drop Prasidh Krishna after one because, if you look at him, he is not somebody who hits the deck hard. He sort of uses his height. Anything that he pitches up is a bit floaty. The only ball that has a bit of pace and strength are short balls,” Sanjay Manjrekar on ESPNCricinfo.

Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri were sort of trigger-happy with such things: Sanjay Manjrekar

Meanwhile, the cricketer-turned-analyst suggests that Mukesh Kumar should get the nod in the Test squad owing to his great bowling spells. The 58-year-old cricketer also compared the current management team to the previous management team, where Virat Kohli was the captain and Ravi Shastri was the head coach.

“If Mukesh Kumar plays, I don’t think too many people will be unhappy. They will be looking at how he is bowling in the nets and think if it is fair on Prasidh Krishna because that is something that the new management cares about, giving a fair run. The earlier team management would have been ruthless. Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri were sort of trigger-happy with such things. These guys (current management) might give one more go… But it is a two-match series, they might be keen to make changes,” he added further.
