‘Sasta nasha’ – Fans in shock as third umpire outrageously overturns obvious no-ball call during SRH vs LSG clash in IPL 2023

The Indian Premier League 2023 is nearing the end of its group stage. In match number 58 of the tournament, Sunrisers Hyderabad is hosting Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Winning the toss the home team decided to bat first on a good batting wicket.

Anmolpreet Singh got the Orange Army off to a fast start, scoring 36 runs in 27 balls. Anmolpreet’s opening partner, Abhishek Sharma, lost his wicket quickly, but Rahul Tripathi and skipper Aiden Markram provided excellent assistance with brief cameos. They scored 20 and 28 runs in their innings, respectively.

However, Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad’s partnership propelled the Sunrisers to a respectable score. The pair contributed 58 runs for the sixth wicket, giving their team considerable momentum.

An incident during their partnership has taken the internet by storm as the third umpire failed to signal a no-ball. On the 3rd delivery of the 19th over, Avesh Khan bowled a full toss delivery to Abdul Samad, which the on-field umpires signalled no-ball.

The Super Giants subsequently chose to review the call, which was surprisingly reversed by the third umpire. The TV umpire thought the batter was slightly crouched and deemed the delivery fair. Even former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar, the match commentator, was agitated by the call made by the third umpire.

As for the game, Klaasen scored 47 runs in 29 balls before getting out on the final delivery of the 19th over. Abdul Samad, on the other hand, stayed unbeaten on 37 runs in 25 balls to help SRH to a total of 182/6. For LSG, captain Krunal Pandya took two wickets, while Yudhvir Singh, Avesh Khan, Yash Thakur, and Amit Mishra each took one.

After the innings, Klaasen also expressed his disappointment with the umpiring. He stated that the umpiring was “not great” and that it broke the momentum for them in the innings. Fans also lashed out at the poor umpiring in the match.
