Shubman Gill eyes unique Sachin Tendulkar record, here’s all you need to know!

Shubman Gill has been in cracking form in 2023. He has been hitting the ball better than most other batters and is making the most of his purple patch. Just ahead of the 2023 World Cup, Gill has hit 1126 runs in 19 matches the ODI format and has an average of 70.37. The man from Punjab has a crazy strike rate of 104.84. He has hit five fifties and four hundreds. In this same year, he has smashed a double hundred in ODIs against New Zealand.

With the way Gill is going, there is a great chance that he break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of  1894 runs which happened in the year 1998. Sachin scored nine hundreds and seven fifties. 143 was his highest score.  For Gill, there are nine matches and more come the 2023 World Cup. He could break a record that could have been impossible to breach so far.

Sachin is one of the greatest to have played the game. The right-hander made 18,426 runs in 463 games at an average of 44.83 and at a strike rate of 86.23. He has scored 96 fifties and 49 hundreds. When he retired from ODI cricket in 2012 he completed the record of scoring a hundred hundreds in total with 51 centuries in Tests and 49 centuries in ODIs. He retired from ODI cricket after playing an Asia Cup game against Pakistan in 2012.

Shubman Gill scored 208 against New Zealand in the home series against India

In the first ODI in the three-match series against Australia, Gill made 74 off 63 balls with six fours and two sixes. His innings helped India to beat Australia by 5 wickets. The Men in Blue now have taken a lead of 1-0 in ODIs. The next game will be played in Indore. With the likes of Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell in line to return for the second ODI, India will still be hoping to secure a victory there.

Gill has been in great form in T20 cricket in 2023 he hit a ton in T20I cricket in the home series against New Zealand. When we talk about Gill’s ODI career in numbers, the 24-year-old has scored 1813 runs in 34 matches at an average of 64.75 and at a strike rate of  102.60. He has made four centuries and five half-centuries so far in ODI cricket.
