‘He has to take leadership very seriously……’ – Sreesanth slams Sanju Samson’s captaincy ahead of IPL 2024
Former India cricketer Sreesanth feels that the Rajasthan Royals need to change Sanju Samson as the skipper ahead of IPL 2024. Notably, the middle-order batter has guided his side to the finals of the IPL 2022. However, the side suffered a defeat in the final game against the Gujarat Titans. In addition, RR ended their journey in the fifth spot during the IPL 2023 and failed to enter the playoffs.
Sreesanth feels that the Rajasthan Royals need to change a few management things if they wish to win the titles. In addition, the former India pacer gives the example of Rahul Dravid and how he looks to team in order to win the games.
“According to me, Rajasthan Royals need to change their system. When I played for Rajasthan Royals, they had a complete management. Rahul (Dravid) bhai was the captain. He had a very clear vision, tactics. He was one of the best captains I had played with. As a captain, you need someone who will win matches for you, if not every match, every three-four games. IPL is a big tournament. There are lots of matches, but you can’t rely on, somebody who comes out once in a blue moon and scores runs,” Sreesanth said on Sportskeeda.
Sanju Samson being captain, first of all, he has to take leadership very seriously: Sreesanth
Meanwhile, the well-renowned cricket commentator feels that Sanju Samson needs to take captaincy on a serious note. However, Sreesanth gives him advice to hand over his captaincy to Jos Buttler, who led England to win the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia after defeating Pakistan in the final game. The former right-arm pacer also cites the example of Rohit Sharma as the most successful leader.
“Sanju being captain, first of all, he has to take leadership very seriously or make Buttler the captain. At least, Buttler has won a World Cup. Yes, he can do well, but (Rajasthan Royals need) someone else who can actually be consistent. You need a captain like Rohit, who has the intensity and the consistency or somebody who is consistently winning the matches for the team,” he added further.
