‘They had the ability to move on…..’ – Sunil Gavaskar drops truth bombshell on Team India after their ODI World Cup 2023 final loss

Team India suffered a heartbreaking and crushing defeat over Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final on November 19 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Co. performed extremely well in the league stage and ended their journey in the top spot with nine out of nine wins. Moreover, they outclassed New Zealand as well in the semi-final game before getting destroyed by the Australia team headed by Pat Cummins.

However, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made headlines with his bold verdict after 26 days of India’s loss to the Aussies. The well-renowned cricket commentator says that Team India has the ability to move on after such losses in major events. In addition, the former India skipper feels they shifted the focus to IPL trades, which started just a week after India’s loss.

“Barely had the tears dried up after the unexpected loss in the final of the World Cup, Indian cricket showed it had the ability to move on. The focus was shifted to the transfer window for the IPL next season. Yes, there was a five-match T20 series being played between India and Australia, but hey, after what was a memorable World Cup, who was bothered about the T20 series except the staunch Indian cricket lovers,” Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column for The Mid-Day.

There was much more intrigue and interest in the transfer and trade: Sunil Gavaskar

Meanwhile, the legendary cricketer didn’t even watch the India vs. Australia T20I series as a few main players weren’t playing the series. The former batting legend reveals that Indians fans were more interested in looking for trades over bilateral series, which happened just after the ODI World Cup 2023.

“The big boys from both teams were not playing anyway, so there was no compelling reason to watch the T20 series after two months of top-class ODI cricket. Instead, there was much more intrigue and interest in the transfer and trade, which was to be done within that week’s deadline. Who was going to be transferred, who was going to be released, who was going where, was what the Indian fan was looking at,” he added further.
