‘I just hope that he allows you to lead the team…’ – Sunil Gavaskar shares message for captain Rohit Sharma ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin’s 100th Test

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has made a special request for Ravichandran Ashwin to India’s skipper Rohit Sharma. Notably, India’s all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin is set to play his 100th Test match in the fifth game against England in Dharamshala. Notably, the great cricketer has 507 Test wickets, 35-five-wicket hauls, 24-four-fors, and over 3000 Test runs featuring five Test centuries, which is nothing less than being the iconic Test career.

Gavaskar has now requested India’s captain Rohit Sharma to allow Ravichandran Ashwin to lead the team onto the field in the next Test match, which is slated to take place on March 7 in Dharamshala. The legendary cricketer feels that it will be a great honour for Ravichandran Ashwin to do all the things he has done for Indian cricket.

“India win tomorrow and you go to Dharamsala. I just hope that Rohit allows you to lead the team out to the field when. That will be a wonderful gesture, wonderful honour for all that you’ve done for Indian cricket. I have seen cracks in the pitches of Perth and Brisbane. When the ball hits the crack in Perth, it goes very viciously past your head. But then nothing happens,” Sunil Gavaskar said after stumps on Day 3.

I have no expectations out of all these things: Sunil Gavaskar

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin has also responded to his request. The great all-rounder revealed that he had no expectations for any gesture from India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, during his 100th Test game. Moreover, the 37-year-old cricketer says that he is enjoying every moment of Test cricket with the team, and he aims to win the games for his country.

“Sunny bhai, you’re being too generous. Thank you so much. I have no expectations out of all these things. I think I’m well past all that but genuinely saying I’m enjoying every single moment that I am being with this team and the longer it lasts, I will be very happy,” Ravichandran Ashwin responded.
