Suryakumar Yadav chosen for T20I cricketer of the year award
India star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been nominated for the Men’s T20I Cricketer of 2022 award by the Apex Council of Cricket. Along with him, three other players in Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza, and Mohammad Rizwan have also been nominated for the same.
Suryakumar had a great year in the game’s shortest format, becoming only the second batter to surpass 1000 runs in a calendar year. With 1164 runs scored at an absurd strike rate of 187.43, he finished the year as the top run scorer.
The 32-year-old was the best men’s T20I batter in the year with two hundred and nine half-centuries. He scored three fifties in six innings during the 20-20 World Cup in Australia, averaging close to 60 and at a strike rate of 189.68.
Sikandar Raza had a fantastic season both with the bat and the ball in T20 Internationals. For the Zimbabwe all-rounder, a fantastic year was topped off by an outstanding performance in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia.
Sam Curran leading wicket-taker of the 20-20 World Cup
Raza outperformed the next-best Zimbabwean batter in T20 Internationals by more than 250 runs with 735 runs this year at a strike rate of above 150. He also topped the team’s wickets table with 25 wickets at a fantastic economy rate of 6.13.
Due to England’s absence of important fast bowlers during the competition, Curran performed well to end the World Cup with 13 wickets, second only to Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga.
The highlight of Curran’s year in this format was the spectacular 20-20 World Cup, and his best performance came in the final against Pakistan in Melbourne, where he allowed just 12 runs in his four overs while also picking up three wickets.
Rizwan finished with 175 runs in the 20-20 World Cup, the joint-most runs by a Pakistan batter. He made 10 half-centuries in T20 Internationals during the year. Rizwan furthered his status as a top-tier anchor at the top of Pakistan’s batting order by averaging 45.27 in T20Is in 2022.
In the home series against England leading up to the 20-20 World Cup, Rizwan played his greatest cricket, scoring an unbeaten 88 off just 51 balls as Pakistan reached a 200-plus goal without losing a wicket.
