‘The way he hit sixes in the first two matches’ – Aakash Chopra on potential selection of star cricketers in T20 World Cup squad
The schedule for T20 World Cup is out and the tournament is set to start from 1st June 2024. The first game of the tournament is set to be played between the USA and Canada in Dallas. India will face their arch-rivals Pakistan on 9th June 2024 in New York. Indian commentator Aakash Chopra has stated that India can pick Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya for the most anticipated T20 World Cup 2024 which is going to start in June in the West Indies and the United States of America.
Shivam Dube reminds him of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as both of them are left-handers and both attack the bowlers in the same style, as stated by Aakash Chopra. As per Aakash Chopra, he wants Shivam to bat down the order for India.
“Shivam Ati Sundaram – his power is talking loudly. I felt he was sent slightly early in the third match. You could have sent either Sanju Samson or Rinku Singh ahead of him because he is not a grafter, he is an attacker. He reminds me of Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh). So you need to keep him slightly down the order,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“If he does well in the IPL, it will be the icing on the cake” – Aakash Chopra on Hardik Pandya
Aakash Chopra further stated that Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube should be the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup Squad
“The way he hit sixes in the first two matches, the power was evident. Some people have even said to leave Hardik and pick Dube. I am saying keep both. Shivam Dube is a real contender based on these three matches. If he does well in the IPL, it will be the icing on the cake,” the former India opener added.
Earlier this month Pandya missed three T20 match series against Afghanistan as he is still to recover from this ankle injury which he got in the ODI World Cup 2023 while playing against Bangladesh.
In the recently ended T20 series against Afghanistan Dube was part of squad I which he smashed 124 runs and took two wickets in three matches. Specially on the Caribbean and the United States pitches which are spinner-friendly power should not be underestimated in the shortest format stated by Aakash Chopra.
