‘This is utter nonsense……’ – Michael Vaughan gives befitting reply to ex-Pakistan all-rounder for his ‘selfish’ remark on Virat Kohli

Team India defeated South Africa in their recent clash on November 5 at Eden Gardens, registering a great victory over the in-form Proteas owing to the magnificent batting performances by India’s swashbuckling batsman Virat Kohli on his 35th birthday. Notably, the star cricketer hammered 101 runs, hitting 10 boundaries, and equalled the record with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar after smashing his 49th ODI tonne.

However, following that, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez made an audacious claim about India’s batting master. The 43-year-old cricketer reveals that Virat Kohli’s 49th ODI tonne was a selfish inning as he kept his milestone over his team win. Moreover, the former all-rounder compared Virat Kohli with India’s skipper Rohit Sharma while calling his innings selfless as compared to the RCB stalwart.

“I saw sense of selfishness in Virat Kohli’s batting and this happened for the third time in this World Cup. In the 49th over, he was looking to take a single to reach his own hundred and he didn’t put the team first. Rohit Sharma could have played selfish cricket too, but he didn’t because he is playing for Team India and not for himself,” Mohammad Hafeez had said on a cricket show Top Cricket Analysis.

Virat Kohli’s team won by over 200 runs against South Africa: Michael Vaughan

Meanwhile, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan hit back at the Pakistan cricketer with his massive and bold claim. The well-renowned cricket commentator explained to Hafeez that Virat Kohli has a 49th tonne, and his role was to anchor the innings on the tough wicket pitch. Moreover, the legendary cricketer reiterated that India has won by a big margin as well. The 49-year-old cricketer called his statement for Virat Kohli utterly nonsensical.

“Come on @MHafeez22 !!! India have hammered 8 teams playing great cricket ..@imVkohli now has 49 tons and his last was an anchor role innings on a tricky pitch. His team won by over 200 !!!! This is utter nonsense .. #CWC2023 #India #Pakistan,” Michael Vaughan wrote on X.
