To 5 Highest total in ODI World Cups

The ODI World Cups have witnessed a plethora of teams showing their best batting performances since its inception in 1975. Notably, South Africa shattered the record held by Australia in the 2015 ODI World Cup. Proteas topped the chart by posting the biggest total in ODI World Cup history, while also marking the first instance of three batters scoring centuries.

The marquee event has already started on October 5 in India and is set to see some wonderful performances in the tournament. Meanwhile, here is a look at the highest team totals in ODI World Cups.

#1. South Africa (428) vs Sri Lanka, 2023

South Africa has the highest total ever in the history of the ODI World Cup. Notably, star batters Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, and R. van der Dussen struck the centuries that helped them post the massive total of 428 runs against Sri Lanka on October 7.

#2. Australia (417) vs Afghanistan, 2015

The Australia team had posted the second-largest total in the history of the ODI World Cup. Notably, they created history on March 4, 2015, in Perth, against Afghanistan. Star opener David Warner struck out 178 runs, while middle-order greats Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell hammered 95 and 88 runs, respectively, to post a massive total of 417 runs. In addition, they dismantled the Afghanistan side for 142 runs and won the game by 275 runs.

#3. India (413) vs Bermud, 2007

Team India posted 413 runs against Bermuda during the 2007 ODI World Cup. Notably, on that day, Virender Sehwag hammered a century, while Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh scored 89 and 83 runs, respectively, which helped his side post the challenging total. Later, Bermuda could only rack up 156 runs while chasing.

#4. South Africa (411) vs Ireland, 2015

On March 3, 2015, the Proteas posted a huge total of 411 runs against Ireland. Notably, South African opener Hashim Amla piled up 159 runs, whereas star batter Faf du Plessis scored 109 runs, which helped them post the challenging total. Later, while chasing, Ireland were all out for just 210 runs.

#5. South Africa (408) vs West Indies, 2015

The South African team is once again on the list, as they posted a massive total of 408 runs against the West Indies on February 27, 2015. South African skipper AB de Villiers scored 162 runs from just 66 balls, featuring 17 boundaries and 8 sixes to post the great total. Later, while chasing, the West Indies could only manage 151 runs.
